TITLE: New Wave Templates Configured for HP DeskJet PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0 DATE: 13-Nov-1991 PROBLEM: Opening an Ami Pro object results in the message "The printer driver 'HP DeskJet' is not installed on this machine. Using the default printer" appears. How can this message be eliminated? SOLUTION: The template files which are used to configure Ami Pro style sheets when Ami Pro is being used with New Wave are configured for the HP DeskJet printer. Each time an Ami Pro object is created, the object will be configured for the HP DeskJet printer. The above informational message indicates that the HP DeskJet is not installed on you system. In order to permanently eliminate the message it will be necessary to reconfigure the Ami Pro templates to a printer that is available in Windows. A macro named CHANGE.SMM which will automate this procedure is available from Lotus. The macro is available electronically from the Lotus Word Processing Division bulletin board, 404-851-1371, and from library 3 Ami Pro macros on the LotusWP CompuServe forum. Download the file NWCHAN.ZIP from either location. The file can be obtained on disk by calling the Lotus WPD Customer Service Department at 404-256-2272. Request the macro CHANGE.SMM. HOW TO INSTALL AND USE THE MACRO 1. From the New Wave Office press CTRL + ESC to access the Windows Task List. 2. Select Program Manager and choose Switch To. 3. From the Windows Program Manager run File Manager (there is usually an icon in one of the Windows program groups for the File Manager). 4. In File Manager access the drive where the CHANGE.SMM macro file is located. For example, if the file is on a disk in drive A, select the A drive icon. 5. Select the file name CHANGE.SMM. 6. Choose File / Copy. 7. For the To option, type the complete path to the Ami Pro macros directory (this is usually C:\HPNWPROG\AMIPRO\MACROS). 8. Choose COPY. 9. If you have already copied the files AMI*.* from the HPNWPROG directory to the Ami Pro directory so that Ami Pro can run as a Windows application, go to Step 10. Otherwise, follow the steps below: a. In Windows File Manager access the HPNWPROG directory (this is usually located at C:\HPNWPROG). b. Choose View / Include. c. For the Name option, type AMI*.*. d. Choose OK. e. Select all files in the view. f. Choose File / Copy. g. For the To option, type the complete path to the location of the Ami Pro program files (this is usually C:\HPNWPROG\AMIPRO). h. Choose COPY. 10. Press ALT + F4 to close File Manager, then choose OK. 11. At the Windows Program Manager, run the Control Panel (there is usually an icon in one of the program groups for the Control Panel). 12. At the Control Panel run the Printers icon. 13. Make the printer that you want the Ami Pro style sheets to use the default printer by double clicking on the printer name (select the printer name and press ALT + D without a mouse). 14. Choose OK. 15. Press ALT + F4 to close the Control Panel. 16. At the Windows Program Manager choose File / Run. 17. For the Command Line option, type X:\PATH\DIRNAME\AMIPRO.EXE and choose OK. X:\PATH\DIRNAME should be the complete path to the Ami Pro program directory (this is usually C:\HPNWPROG\AMIPRO). NOTE: The CHANGE.SMM macro must be run while Ami Pro is loaded under Windows and not New Wave. 18. In Ami Pro choose Tools / Macros / Playback. 19. Select the macro name CHANGE.SMM and choose OK. 20. The macro will display a path to the location that is believed to contain the Ami Pro template files. If the location is incorrect, choose No and specify the correct path. Once the template files are located, the macro changes the printer for each template to the default printer. 21. Exit Ami Pro by pressing ALT + F4. 22. In the Windows Program Manager press CTRL + ESC to open the Task List. 23. Select New Wave Office in the Task List. 24. Choose Switch To. 25. In the New Wave Office press CTRL + ALT + X. 26. Choose Settings / Installation. 27. Select the path to the Ami Pro program files (this is usually C:\HPNWPROG\AMIPRO) and choose OK. 28. Select the file name AMIPRO1.IN$ and choose OK. 29. Repeat Steps 25-28 except select the file name AMIPRO2.IN$ in Step 28. 30. New Wave now reinstalls Ami Pro for New Wave. Each style sheet will now use your default printer and the message indicating that the HP DeskJet printer is not installed no longer appears opening Ami Pro objects.
