TITLE: Printing Multiple Copies to PostScript Issues Multiple Jobs PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0 DATE: 22-Nov-1991 PROBLEM: Specifying to print multiple copies of a file to a PostScript printer sends each copy to the printer separately making the print time longer than it would having the data sent only once, then the printer making the multiple copies. SOLUTION: Because of the structure of the 3.3 and 3.4 Windows PostScript drivers, Ami Pro files which specify printing multiple copies will print each copy separately to a PostScript printer (the image of the file will be sent to the printer multiple times instead of one time). This will extend the time that it takes to print multiple copies of a file. A workaround is to set the number of copies to print in the Ami Pro print options AND in the PostScript printer driver. This method will send an image of the file to the printer only once, then the printer will make the multiple copies from that image. NOTE: Since the Ami Pro print option for number of copies to print overrides the PostScript printer driver option for number of copies, it is necessary to set the number in both locations. Otherwise, the Ami Pro option will override the printer driver setting and an incorrect number of copies will print. HOW TO SET THE NUMBER OF COPIES TO PRINT 1. In Ami Pro open the file that will be printed. 2. Choose File / Print. 3. Specify the desired number of copies to print in the Number of Copies option. 4. Choose Setup. 5. Type the same number specified in Step 3 for the Copies option in the PostScript printer driver. 6. Choose OK. 7. Choose OK. NOTE: The number of copies specified in Step 5 will remain in the PostScript printer driver until another number is specified. Modified Ami Pro program files are available which will provide a more permanent solution to this situation by working around the way the PostScript printer drivers work. Using the modified Ami Pro files, it will not be necessary to set the number of copies to print in the PostScript printer driver.
