Learn and use many of the techniques of the world's finest CorelDRAW experts or sit back and enjoy the beautiful screen savers and challenging puzzles based on these designs. Anyway you use it, Corel Artshow is for you. The Corel Artshow 4 CD-ROM contains numerous complementary programs. These vary from programs such as CD-Audio to demos of MIDI software from companies such as Voyetra and Midisoft. Let's take a quick peak at some of what Corel Artshow 4 has to offer. The Corel Artshow 4 Program --------------------------- The Corel Artshow 4 Program is a full featured Windows viewing program, created using Microsoft's Visual Basic. It allows quick searching and viewing on any of the beautiful designs that were entered into our $1,000,000 Design Contest. The Corel Artshow viewer has many interesting and easy to use features, but we will let you find those out for yourself. To run Corel Artshow follow the instructions explained in the QuickStart section of the manual. Corel CD-Audio for Windows -------------------------- Corel CD-Audio simulates a CD player and allows you to play your favorite music CDs from your CD-ROM drive. The CD-Audio window has been designed to look and work just like the control panel on a home CD player. Interactive on-line help menus guide you through all of the options. Extensive utilities let you customize the set-up and performance of your CD-ROM drive, and create catalogues of all your music CDs. You can even select your own color scheme to personalize the CD-Audio control panel. Corel CD- Audio is fully compatible with all CD-ROM drives that support audio. CD-Audio is available for installation by running the main installation program and saying Yes when asked if you want to install CD-Audio. Corel ArtView Screensaver for Windows 3.1 --------------------------------------- The Corel ArtView is a screensaver module that is compatible with the screensaver program that is built into both Window 3.1 and Windows with Multimedia Extensions 1.0. The Corel Artshow 4 installation will copy the needed files over to your Windows directory. Once the installation is completed successfully you must activate it from within the Desktop icon found in the Control Panel. This screensaver module will search any attach CD-ROM drives and try and display any bitmap images it finds on discs placed in them. It will display files in the BMP, PCX, GIF and Kodak PhotoCD format. If it can't find any images on a CD inserted in you CD-ROM player it will search your hard drive for any viewable pictures. Use the SETUP button to include or exclude different directories, and to set the order in which the bitmaps will appear. If Corel ArtView can't find any bitmap images to view, it will default to a lovely bezier curve pattern. Be sure to start this little gem running! Voyetra Technologies -------------------- Many of the MIDI songs found on the Corel ArtShow 4 CD-ROM were composed by musicians working at Voyetra Technologies. Voyetra Technologies, a leading developer of PC Music Software, offers a full line of sound editing tools for multimedia productions. From sequencers and MIDI Music Clips to a full range of MIDI hardware Voyetra has it all! The whole thing should look like this: G:\VOYETRA\TBOOK VOYETRA.TBK. MidiSoft Corporation -------------------- Another biggie in the development of PC Music Software, MidiSoft has various multimedia packages ranging from full blown Windows sequencers to music teaching software. Many of the MIDI music files found on this product, were provided courtesy of Midisoft Corporation, and were created by Steve Peha, Ben Hippen, George F. Litterst, and Tracy Hurst of Music Technology Associates. Midisoft has included a demoed version of their sequencer package Recording Session which offers standard MIDI sequencing features, as well as an editable musical notation display. To see more about Midisoft and to run their Recording Session run the install program in the Midisoft directory. To do so, Click on Run... in the FILE menu then type the CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon and a backslash with the directory MIDISOFT following. Then type INSTALL.EXE and press ENTER. Again the whole thing should look like this: G:\MIDISOFT\INSTALL.EXE The Corel Demos --------------- There is a self-running Dos based demo for you to run. It demonstrates all of the powerful features found in the new CorelDRAW 4.0. To run the demo, from DOS, please go to the directory called DRAWDEMO and type DEMO4 then press ENTER. There is also a CorelDRAW 3.0 Demo found in the same directory as the CorelDRAW 4.0 Demo. Anything Else! -------------- We may have placed other utilities or demos on the Corel ArtShow 4 CD-ROM after the printing of this manual. Please take a look at the root directory of the CD-ROM for any extra batch files or directories that may contain many different untold goodies! Also Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later must be properly installed on your hard drive. Once these two requirements are fulfilled, do the following. - Open Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later (Windows 3.1 is strongly recommended) - Open the Program Manager - Click on Run...in the FILE menu - Type the CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon and a backslash (:\) - Type SETUP and press ENTER Once the SETUP program is started, instructions on the screen guide you through the installation. By using the Corel Artshow program or any other material found on the CD- ROM, you indicate your acceptance of the User Licence Agreement. Having Problems? ================ Some CD-ROM drives may get errors while running under Microsoft Windows. If you are getting Drive Error messages while trying to access a CD-ROM you should include the following entry in the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file: device=LANMAN10.386 Before you do this you must get the file LANMAN10.386 off the Windows Diskettes. You need to find the LANMAN10.386 file and a program called EXPAND.EXE (On the Ver. 3.0 5 1/4 release disks of windows these programs are found on Disk 4 and Disk 2 respectively). You should copy the program EXPAND.EXE off the floppy disk to your windows directory. You should then use the EXPAND.EXE program to expand the LANMAN10.386 to your windows directory. To expand the LANMAN10.386 file a syntax similar to the following should be used: expand a:LANMAN10.386 c:\windows where a: is the floppy drive that contains the Windows diskette with LANMAN10.386 on it, and c:\windows is the drive and directory where Windows is stored. If you are still having problems, you may need to activate the drive by sending it a command before you start Windows. For example, type the following at the DOS prompt and then start Windows: dir x: where x is the drive letter for the CD ROM drive. The above information was derived from the README.TXT in the Windows Version 3.0 release disks. If you have a newer version of Windows, this problem may have been eliminated. However, it is a very good idea to always read the README.TXT for recent hints that Microsoft may have on known problems with Windows and different products that you may be using. If you are still having problems we have found that adding the following entries to you [386Enh] section can be helpful in some situations.
