During the past 30 years, the South African unit trust industry has established a significant presence in the investment sector. Sage Group has made a meaningful contribution to this process, pioneering the unit trust industry with the launch of Sage Fund in June 1965.
In 1987 Sage established a second equity unit trust, Sage Resources Fund, thereby providing a specialised emphasis on investment in natural resource companies. The unit trust activities were further expanded in September 1993 with the launch of Sage Financial Services Fund, which invests in financial institutions, and Sage Income Fund which offers competitive income returns while seeking to minimise capital risk.
The Sage unit trusts are managed by Investors Mutual Funds (IMF), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sage Life Limited and a member of the Sage Group. IMF has achieved outstanding results for investors over the long-term.
The Sage Life Holdings and Coronation Holdings Groups have recently joined forces to create a new asset management venture - Sage Coronation Fund Managers (SCFM). It is expected that this alliance will further enhance the investment potential of the trusts.
Sage Group Limited, listed in the Insurance Sector of The Johannesburg Stock Exchange, is a prominent independent financial institution, controlling and managing assets of R7.5 billion. The Groups diverse activities focus on Life Assurance, Investment & Finance and Property.
Sage Coronation Fund Managers holds 75% interests in two operating subsidiaries - Sage Capital Managers (SCM) and Coronation Assets Management (CAM). The remaining 25% in each company is held by management. The operations subsidiaries will share management and resources and Mr Leon Campher will be Managing Director of both Subsidiaries.
Investment into the Sage equity trusts can be made directly, through investment linkages available on the comprehensive range of Sage Life products and through other unit trust investment linked packages. (Back to Contents...)
