Primary
and secondary school teachers having acquired teacher
qualifications are required to receive on-the-job training.
A training cycle lasts about five years. Training takes
a variety of forms, learning is combined with practice
and attention is paid to training quality and efficiency.
The content of training includes ideological education,
teacher ethics, professional knowledge renewal and expansion,
modern education theories and practices, the study of
education as a science, teaching skills training, modern
teaching technology, modern science and technology, and
social sciences.
The training
of primary and secondary school teachers is provided by
a national teacher education system that consists of 35
university-affiliated teacher education centers, 240 colleges
of education and 2,088 teachers continuation schools located
all over China. Since its establishment in 1986, China
Education Television Station has opened a via-satellite
TV

education special channel broadcasting 13 hours of
educational programs a day for the training of primary
and secondary school teachers. Later, the station began
providing training for junior middle school teachers
through a combination of means: correspondence education,
TV education and the self-study/examination program.
On-the-job training has also been provided to the country's
one million primary and secondary school principals.
The Ministry
of Education organizes training classes for teachers
with schools of higher learning, including those for
lectures, those applying for MA or Ph.D study, visitor
scholars from other domestic schools, and those to be
sent to study abroad. All these help improve the quality
of these teachers.
