Cheng
Hao, Cheng Yi, theorist in the North Song Dynasty. They
were brothers and called "Two Cheng". They were
engaged in lecturing activities in their whole life. He
is the first advocator of taking The General Learning,
The Doctrine of Mean, The Analects of Confucius, The Mencius,
four books as the fundamental textbooks, and the founder
of a new textbook system-- "Five Classics and Four
Books" and a new knowledge structure--orthodoxy of
teachings, which became the fundamental textbooks and
education content in imperial school education after Song
Dynasty. His theory was spread not only among Han people,
but also adopted by the minorities of Mongolia and Man
till the dynasties of Yuan, Ming and Qing. Later, it was
spread to Korea, Japan, Viet Nam and other countries. |
