• Plug the PC into the UPS.
• Connect the PC's serial port to the UPS with a special cable.
• Run powerd on the PC.
• Setup your initd to do something reasonable on powerfail and powerok events (like start a shutdown and kill any currently running shutdowns, respectively, for example).
