One of the functions of this page is to allow me to try things out before adding them to one of the more official pages for which I am responsible. As a result, some strange things might happen.

I am a lecturer in the Law Department at Bristol University, teaching mainly public law subjects (Public Law to first year students, Administrative Law as an undergraduate and postgraduate option, and part of the postgraduate course Constitutional and Administrative Law of the EC). I am a graduate of Warwick University (LLB, 1987) and the European University Institute, Florence (LLM, 1989). Before coming to Bristol, I taught at the University of Hull for one year.

I am currently researching in two main areas. My major interest is in the legal concept of the Crown, and its position in administrative and constitutional law. I am also engaged in a long-term project investigating the use of judicial inquiries in the process of accountability. Generally, I have an interest in accountability (both political and judicial) in the British and EU constitutions, and I am working on a book proposal in that area.

I have overall responsibility for IT strategy in the Law Department (although I am able to leave the difficult bits to people more talented in that direction), and I see the development of the World-Wide Web as a valuable tool for teaching and research. I am also currently writing three workbooks on Constitutional and Administrative Law as part of the work of the Law Courseware Consortium. I participate in a number of law-related email lists and newsgroups, and(ostensibly) lead the Law-Public list.

In addition to all this, I am Deputy Warden at one of the University's Halls of Residence, Goldney Hall. I have now begun to write the Goldney Web pages - these will grow.
