Our goal in bringing you this CD is to provide you with a collection of valuable Bible/Christian resources that will enhance your studies. This CD-ROM is designed for use by any PC running DOS, Windows, or Windows 95. Quick Start to Browse/Run programs from the CD: ---------------------------------------------- For Windows: Select File, Run, then x:\startw.exe (where x is the CD drive) For DOS: Type the command: x:\start.exe (where x is the CD-ROM drive) (note: If your current directory is the CD root directory, then you may omit the x:\ part of the filename and just use: STARTW.EXE or START.EXE What is Public Domain, Freeware, and Shareware? ----------------------------------------------- Shareware is a "try before you buy" method of distributing software. Authors of shareware allow you to evaluate their programs for a period of time, then expect you to register (pay for) the programs if you continue to use them. Please consult each program's documentation for more information about how to register with the program's author. Freeware is similar to shareware except that the author does not require payment for the use of the program (hence the Freeware name). Public domain files and programs are free to use, and are NOT copyrighted works. Both shareware and freeware programs are copyrighted works. We do not sell any programs on this CD. Your purchase price of this CD is a distribution fee only, for us to provide the files on CD to you. All payments for programs/files on this CD-ROM should be made directly to the author(s). How do I use this BibleWare CD-ROM? ----------------------------------- This CD contains programs in a special self-extracting format (.EXE). Each program resides in an .EXE file which can be run by any standard Windows launch program (File Manager, Windows Explorer, etc.). You may also want to use one of our two CD viewer/extract programs included on this CD to browse through the file descriptions and/or launch the programs on the CD. Every directory on the CD contains a text file called '00_files.txt' which lists the directories below the current directory, plus gives a detailed description of each program that resides in that directory. You may use the included STARTW or START programs that will automatically display these file descriptions, or you may manually view the '00_files.txt' files using any Word Processor, Text Editor, or File Viewer utility. The easiest way to use programs off this CD is to run one of the following two programs: STARTW.EXE - Windows based CD viewer/extract program (will run under Windows 3.x or Windows 95). This is the preferred program as it has more features/capabilities than the DOS based START.EXE program below. START.EXE - DOS based CD viewer/extract program (runs under DOS, Windows 3.x, or Windows 95). Use this program if you are running under DOS only (no Windows) or if you prefer a text based interface. Note: Not recommended for use under Windows 3.x, but will function well under Windows 95. Both of the above programs will allow you to navigate around the CD and view the file descriptions for each program on the CD. They will also let you run the self-extracting programs that are on the CD. Manually browsing/running programs off the CD can be accomplished using File Manager or Windows Explorer by double clicking on the program name (xxxxxxxx.exe) you want to run. This will invoke the self-extracting program. Under DOS (no Windows), you may run the .EXE program from a command line prompt and the archive will self-extract. Note that you must specify a destination directory on the command line or else it will try to extract onto the CD which is not able to be written to. The DOS command format to extract a program manually is: program.exe c:\test (where program.exe is the name of the program you want to extract, and c:\test is the destination directory). More About the START/STARTW CD Browser Programs and File Descriptions: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Use the ESC key to go back to a previous directory when using the START or STARTW program. ESC will also exit the START/STARTW program when it is pressed from START's main (root directory) screen. To run a self-extracting program from START or STARTW, simply press ENTER once the file's name is highlighted, or double click on the file in STARTW. This will cause you to be prompted for a destination directory to UNZIP the files into. You may accept the default directory name if you like, or you may pick a different drive/directory name for each program you want to try out. We recommend you pick a different directory name for each file, so that files from more than one program are not mixed up in the same UNZIP directory. As each program was written by a different author, they all perform somewhat differently. You may want to use CleanSweep or a similar file cleanup utility to remove old/unused files installed by the different programs. You may also do a DOS DEL *.* command in the temporary UNZIP directory(s) to remove unwanted files left by various programs you have been evaluating from the CD. File Manager or Windows Explorer may also be used to manually remove unwanted files and/or directories. Note: Each file is denoted by program/file type in the 00_FILES.TXT file. After the program description the following codes are displayed to signify: *DOS* - DOS based program *WIN* - 16 bit Windows 3.x program *WIN95* - 32 bit Windows 95 program *TEXT* - ASCII text file Windows 95 will run DOS, WIN, and WIN95 programs. Windows 3.x will run both DOS and WIN programs. DOS will only run DOS programs. All 3 operating systems will be able to view/edit TEXT files with a Word Processor or EDIT. Some text files are included in a self extracting .EXE file. To view these files, simply run the .EXE file then specify the directory where you want the text files. Then use your Word Processor or Text Editor to view, eidt, or print the files. Under Windows 3.x or Windows 95, you may experience problems running DOS based programs directly from the self-extracting archive (.EXE) program. By all means try to run the program from the self-extracting archive, but if you experience problems (no music, system lockup, distorted graphics, etc.), you should re-run the program manually from a DOS prompt. This should fix your problems. This is due to older DOS programs that don't behave well with Windows. Copyright --------- This entire CD-ROM is Copyright (c) 1996 by Jodi L. Smith.
