The Walls of Jerusalem Long ago, the Jews who lived in Jerusalem turned away from God and were evil. God had no choice but to punish them for their evil so He caused them to be carried away into captivity to a distant land. After many years, the Lord allowed them to return to Jerusalem. When they arrived in Jerusalem they discovered that the walls around the city had been broken down. The people at once began to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. It was a very great task, but the people worked with all their heart. As the work on the wall continued, the enemies of the Jews attempted to stop the work by scaring the workers. Then Nehemiah, who was in charge of the building, said, "Do not be afraid! Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome! He will fight for us!" Then the workers continued to work until the walls around Jerusalem were completed. The Jews dedicated the wall of Jerusalem to the Lord and the Lord blessed them.
