The Tower of Babel Soon after the Great Flood, there were thousands of people living on the earth again. After a while the people began to forget about God's promise not to flood the earth again. They decided to build a tower that would reach to heaven. If another flood came they would climb their tower and be safe. Instead of trusting in God's promise to keep them safe, they decided to trust in their own efforts. So they began to build the high tower. Now God was not pleased that man had forgotten Him and He was not pleased with this tower. God decided that the work on the tower must be stopped. All the people on the earth spoke the same language after the flood. God caused something very strange to happen. Suddenly, the people began to speak different languages! The workers could no longer understand each other. The work on the tower stopped and God scattered the people throughout the land. The tower was called Babel. Babel means confusion.
