The PrintOMatic Xtra
Version 1.5.3 for Windows


Introduction
------------

PrintOMatic is the premier printing tool for Macromedia Director. PrintOMatic
adds a full set of page-layout, text and graphics printing features to Director
projects on Macintosh and Windows. 

This is only a brief "Read Me" file. The full documentation for PrintOMatic can
be printed from the demo movie PMATIC.DIR, or viewed from the on-line help file
available from the Director menu item  "Xtras -> PrintOMatic -> PrintOMatic
Help"


PrintOMatic Components
----------------------

The following PrintOMatic components are in the PrintOMatic distribution
archive, and need to be placed in specific locations on your hard disk:

    PMATIC.X16
    PMATIC.X32            
        The PrintOMatic Xtra. Put it in Director's "Xtras" folder.
        .X16 version is needed for the 16-bit version of Director
        or 16-bit Projectors, the .X32 version for 32-bit Windows
        (Windows 95 or Windows NT)

    PMATIC.HLP
        The PrintOMatic on-line help file. Put it in the same folder
        as Director.

    PMATIC.DIR
        The PrintOMatic Demo movie, which prints all the documentation,
        an info sheet, and an order form, all using the PrintOMatic Xtra.
        It doesn't matter where you put this file.

    README.TXT
        The file you are reading now.

The only files that are essential in run-time projects are PMATIC.X16 and
PMATIC.X32. If your project uses PrintOMatic, you MUST include these files in an
"Xtras" folder within the folder your projector is in. See the Director
documentation for more information about Xtras and projector files.


Using PrintOMatic's On-Line Help
--------------------------------

An on-line help file has been provided as part of the PrintOMatic installation.
This help file can be used right alongside Director's own on-line help file as
you work. To use the on-line help file:

        Within Director, select the menu item "Xtras -> PrintOMatic ->
        PrintOMatic Help". This will open the PrintOMatic Help file using
        the Windows Help application.


PrintOMatic Release Notes
-------------------------

1.5d1 First Macintosh beta release. Documentation and help file (specifically,
the "Using" section) are still incomplete.

1.5d2  First Windows beta release. Improved file format checking code on both
platforms. Fixed PICT file sizing problems on Windows. Updated "unregistered
copy" messages with e-mail contact information.

1.5d3 Fixed a Windows bug that caused drawStagePicture to draw a black rectangle
in 16- and 32-bit color. Updated the About Box with new artwork. Added
draw1BitStagePicture, printToPictFiles, loadPageSetup, and savePageSetup
routines to Macintosh version ONLY (for backwards-compatibility). Make the "new"
handler fail silently when there's an error (such as no printer selected), so
you can present your own dialog to users.

1.5d4 Added version numbers to the About box. Improved the Mac printer database 
to save the name of the print driver along with the settings.

1.5 Fixed a bug in the Macintosh version that would print the wrong pages if a
specific page rage was selected in the Job Setup dialog. Added protective code
to defend against a Director bug that returns a text size of 0 from text fields.
Recompiled to remedy a bug that botched printing in Windows 95.

1.5.2 Fixed a bug that caused the Windows version to crash when calling 
setPage 0.

1.5.3 Fixed a Windows bug that caused problems printing files from disk in 
Windows 95.
