Please read the following carefully and a successful installation can be achieved.

After finishing the installation you are encouraged to read the IRemote User's Manual and the Skinner's Guide

System Requirements

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP,  Pocket PC or Pocket PC 2002 (ARM,MIPS,SH3);  Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher

Note:

This release has been developed and tested using an iPAQ 3630 with an Orinoco Gold 802.11b PC card.  Only files specific to IRemote and IRemoteSvr are copied.  The installation does not install or replace any of the system files on your handheld or desktop PC.  Both components of the IRemote system require the MS XML library.  Installation of IE ver. 5.0+ includes the most recent version of the XML library for your PC.

Installation

  1. Connect your handheld device via ActiveSync and allow synchronization to complete.

    Click Install.exe

The installation process has the following options.  You can select any combination.  Both items are selected by default.

    IRemote Server

This is the server component.  The file IRemoteSvr.exe and several sample play lists will be installed on the desktop computer.  The installer will determine if WinAmp is installed.  If WinAmp is not already installed then WinAmp v2.80 will be downloaded from the internet and installed.  The installer will then start IRemoteSvr.

    IRemote Client

This is the client component.  Your device will need to be connected with ActiveSync to complete this leg.  The file IRemote.exe will be installed on your device.  The installation process will configure your device.  IRemote will start and automatically connect to IRemoteSvr running on the PC.

  2. The installation is now complete and you should be able to start enjoying the functionality of IRemote.  Items 4-7 provide further details for configuring the server.

  3. After installation.  Click on the IRemote icon located in the system tray.  The "Connection Settings" dialog will appear.  The dialog contains edit boxes for two paths.  The upper box is the location of the WinAmp.exe file.  The other is the "Playlist Directory".  The Playlist Directory is the folder where IRemote will save the play lists you build.

  4. Clicking the "Media" button will bring up the Media Library dialog.  The Media Library dialog contains an edit box labeled "Media Search Directory".  This edit box specifies which folder IRemoteSvr will search for media in (see item 5).

  5. The first time you connect to the server there will not be an existing Media Library.  The server will start to build the Remote Media Library approximately 20 seconds after connecting.  IRemoteSvr will search for M3U playlists and MP3 files in the folder specified as the "Media Search  Directory".  Once the search is complete, information required to browse the Library will be sent to your handheld.

Note:  If the install process fails to transfer the files to your handheld. you will need to install IRemote manually.  Determine which processor your Pocket PC is using and copy the appropriate .CAB file to your handheld.  For example, if you have an iPAQ your device has an ARM processor.  Copy the file IRemote.arm.CAB to a location on your handheld.  After the file has been copied… double tap on the file in File Explorer.  The install process should begin.
