Xudum Camp

Game Viewing & Activities: Day and evening game viewing in open four-wheel drive vehicles, mokoro safaris, guided walks, fishing, bush walks with trained African elephants
Xudum (pronounced Ku-dum) is nestled on an ancient sand tongue surrounded on three sides by deep lagoons formed by the camps namesake river. Old-growth mahogany and machaba hardwoods shade and conceal the camps seven East African style luxury guest tents. Each tent is tastefully appointed and has its own en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water. Nearby is the dining and lounge area, also under canvas, which overlooks this watery paradise. This is where guests enjoy superb meals prepared and served with style and flair, accompanied by an impressive selection of regional and imported wines and spirits. On the peninsulas point, the campfire and sitting area overlook this virgin ecosystem - clear lagoons with their resident hippos and crocs, verdant grass flood plains teeming with red lechwe and zebra, and everywhere the profound spectacle of some 300 species of bird life. With a crackling fire burning nearby, this is the ideal place to enjoy drinks and appetizers as the setting African sun makes its glorious, colorful departure in the west. Xudum is a rare opportunity to see the Okavango Delta as few have seen it and this holds true with their interactive approach to safaris. Not only does Xudum offer this intimate coexistence with nature, but guests also enjoy a unique blend of non-traditional safari activities as well. Night game drives, mokoro safaris (dependent on water levels), walking safaris, fishing, and picnics are some of the activities offered in addition to game drives in customized, open-roof 4-wheel drive safari vehicles. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to enjoy a day in the bush with trained African elephants-walking and just experiencing the genteel nature on these remarkable giants. Only a handful of lucky travelers to Botswana will visit this environmentally-sound facility. In order to preserve this experience, visits to Xudum are for a minimum stay of three nights. Even then, guests only begin to experience the true feel of Africa found at this unique camp.
