MalaMala - 25 Rondavels and "The Sable Suite"

MalaMala main camp is South Africas legendary and exclusive destination while also being acknowledged internationally as the top safari lodge of the world. To be in camp at MalaMala is in itself an exciting experience. The ochre colored buildings are clustered amid shady trees and manicured lawns on the banks of the Sand River. The rooms are spacious rondavels, under thatch, each enjoying a spectacular view and equipped with His and Her bathrooms and air-conditioning, to name of few of the amenities. The individually decorated rooms feature sets of animal or bird prints completing the attention to detail for which MalaMala is world famous. The entire camp is furnished in rattan furniture but despite the comfort offered, MalaMala retains a camp atmosphere. And whether relaxing by the swimming pool or taking in the surrounding beauty from a verandah, personalized service is assured by a staff to guest ration of 3 to 1. Breakfast and lunch are served in an attractive air-conditioned dining room overlooking the Sand River, while dinner is in a reed enclosed "boma". Seated around a log fire, under the starry African sky, enjoying superb food and sampling the outstanding South African wines is yet another highlight in the MalaMala experience. The spacious, beautifully decorated Buffalo lounge displaying bronzes, works of art and animal trophies leads onto an expansive verandah which provides an elevated view of animals watering in the Sand River. The accommodation at MalaMala is of the highest standard available in the bushveld. You do not have to rough it or be uncomfortable to enjoy a safari. MalaMala offers no stress Safaris.
The Sable Suite - Within MalaMala is The Sable Suite, a decentralized facility situated in the southern area of the main camp where it enjoys privacy. The Sable caters for a maximum of 16 persons with its own dining room, lounge, bar, boma, swimming pool and viewing deck which offers the intimacy of a smaller camp. It may be reserved exclusively for a private party of by independent guests.
Kirkmans Kamp - 10 cottages and one private facilities, Kirkmans Cottage

Kirkmans Kamp, situated in the southern division of the famous MalaMala Game Reserve, offers a return to the bushveld of yesteryear. Located on one of the most elevated sites overlooking the Sand River, the camp has spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness as far as the eye can see. The property, Toulon, on which this Kamp stands, is bordered on two sides by the Kruger National Park and shares a long history with the development of this world famous game reserve. Upon being purchased MalaMala, the original homestead, built in the very early twenties, was restored and is now the recreational center of the Kamp. A large lounge-dining room and a parlor decorated in the 1920s style with many old photographs and memorabilia take one back through the years on Toulon. The bedrooms consist of semi-detached cottages overlooking the Sand River. Each room has access to its own private verandah and has en suite bathroom featuring ball and claw footed baths. Everything is as authentic as possible except the air-conditioning and overhead fan. The only facility not in evidence in the 20s but which is now provided for your comfort is a swimming pool. Breakfast and lunch are either served in the main house or on the shady surrounding verandahs. Dinner is a very special event taken in a reed enclosed boma around a camp fire. Kirkmans Kamp offers historical Africa; MalaMala Game Reserve is preserving that history and is determined to save some of the old values.

Kirkmans Cottage - This exclusive retreat, accommodating a maximum of 8 guests, was the last camp constructed by Harry Kirkman some 30 years ago. It has been altered and totally refurbished in 1991 and now boasts an attractive lounge/dining room under fans, an intimate air-conditioned bar, a cozy boma and a filtered swimming pool. Modern Safari is the decor of the four spacious double bedrooms, which are equipped with overhead fans, air-conditioners and en-suite bathrooms, each with separate shower cubicles. Kirkmans Cottage is a very private camp that is, of course, managed in the world renowned MalaMala style.
