AMERICA'S KIDS GO ON SAFARI WITH JACK HANNA VIA COMPUSERVE

NEW YORK, New York, Feb. 15, 1996 -- Popular television host and naturalist Jungle Jack Hanna has joined CompuServe's Youth Drive (YDRIVE!) Forum and will conduct a "virtual safari" online beginning on February 19th. While filming new episodes for his long-running series, "Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures," Hanna will be providing reports and commentary, photographs, and answering YDRIVE! members' questions during an 18-day trek through South Africa.

The YDRIVE! Forum, part of Entertainment Drive on CompuServe, is an online area geared for "cyberkids and screenteens" and is involved in many community and educational outreach programs. For Hanna's "Postcards From The Safari," elementary schools are invited to participate by using photographs, maps, text and study guides available online. Linda Warren's fifth grade class at Crestwood Elementary School in Rockford, Michigan is participating by having students follow the journey and communicate daily with the safari party. "This is a wonderful incentive for children to learn not only about geography and the animal kingdom," said Ms. Warren, "but also how new technology can amplify our experience of the world."

The itinerary includes Johannesburg, Cape Town and other major cities; animal reserves and wetlands which are home to such species as rhinoceros, cheetah, and crocodile; and the site of Bushman paintings of indigenous wildlife. Each week on his television program, Hanna takes millions of family viewers on exciting journeys to learn about animals and the places they live. America's favorite zookeeper is excited to augment that experience with an online component. "Communicating and providing information online expands our opportunity to inspire people about wildlife and get them to care about animals," he said.

Parents and educators wishing to participate can receive free CompuServe software by calling 800-272-1221.
