GUIDING LIGHT Guiding Light (GL) takes place in the fictional town of Springfield and focuses on multi-generational families facing many contemporary issues, including single parenthood, mental illness, breast cancer and alcoholism. GL began its 43rd season in the fall of 1995. The show originated on radio in 1937 and came to television fifteen years later on June 30, 1952. GL was the only radio serial to succesfully make the transition to television. Former cast members include Kevin Bacon and JoBeth Williams.
