Hyundai Motor Company was established in Korea in 1967 by the Hyundai Group. The first Hyundai passenger car, the Pony, was introduced in 1976, and in 1986 Hyundai introduced the Excel, its first car for the U.S. market. An unprecedented 100,000 Excels were sold in the subsequent seven months. Now Hyundai has sold close to 1.5 million vehicles in America, with approximately 500 dealerships in 49 states.
