Bore is the diameter of each cylinder and stroke is the distance the piston travels one way within the cylinder. The displacement for each cylinder can be determined by multiplying the area of the cylinder by the stroke. Multiplying the displacement for each cylinder by the number of cylinders determines the total engine displacement, or engine size.
