How to: Change which program starts when a file is opened.
Edit the file type to be changed from the 'Registered file types' list box, and select a new application to be associated with the file type.
1)Open Windows Explorer.
2) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Options...'. (The 'Options' dialog box appears.)
3) Click the 'File Types' tab.
4) Select the file type you want to change from the 'Registered file types' list box. (Details of the file type appear in the 'File type details group'.)
5) Click 'Edit...'. (The 'Edit File Type' dialog box appears.)
6) Select 'Open' from the 'Actions' list box.
7) Click 'Edit...'. (The 'Editing action for type: <name>' dialog box appears, where <name> is the file type you selected. The current application name and path are displayed in the 'Application used to perform action' box.)
8) Click 'Browse...' to locate the new application. (The 'Open With' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: Applications located in the Windows 95 'Programs' menu ('Accessories', 'Applications', etc.) are located in the 'Programs Files' folder in the root directory.
9) Select the drive containing the application from the 'Look in' drop-down list box.
10) If necessary, double-click the folder(s) containing the application in the 'Look in' list box.
11) Select the .exe file for the application from the 'Look in' list box, and click 'Open'. (The 'Editing action for type: <name>' dialog box reappears, with the new application name and path in the 'Application used to perform action' box.)
12) If the application uses Dynamic Data Exchange, select the 'Use DDE' check box.
13) Click 'OK'. (The 'Edit File Type' dialog box appears.)
14) Click 'OK'. (The 'Options' dialog box reappears.)
15) Click 'OK'.
16) To exit Windows Explorer, select the 'File' menu and select 'Close'.
