Instructions for Installing Win32S on Windows 3.1 and 3.11
This documentation was put together by Arthur Martin, N2QAE, and is included with the WinAPRS documentation with his permission. His original notes have been updated and modified slightly.
Just some of my experiences in getting prepared to run MacAPRS compiled for
Windows 3.x Source of the WIN32s is the file OLE32s13.EXE. You can try to
download it from
If you need more help, refer to this more involved description
Follow these steps to install Win32S.
- download OLE32S13.EXE from the www site shown above
- make a DOS directory (I named it WIN32s) off the root "drive_letter:\WIN32S"
- copy in the OLE32S13.EXE into that directory
- Make sure you are in WIN32S directory
- Execute the self-extracting archive (2.5 Meg) "OLE32S13(return)". All the files in the archive will be left in the WIN32S directory. If you have a backup copy of OLE32S13.EXE stashed away then you can delet it from the WIN32S directory to free up some disk space.
- Make sure that \DOS\SHARE.EXE is loaded in your CONFIG.SYS file. The Setup program checks for it and gets upset if it isn't running.
- Start up your Windows 3.x
- Bring up the Program Manager window
- Select Run....
- Type "drive_letter:\WIN32S\SETUP(return)" The Windows Setup program should run. Follow the prompts. Windows must reboot at the completion of Setup or you should do it manually.
- Refer to the
Installation section of the main documentation for WinAPRS installation and setup.
- Then create the WinAPRS group and it will create the group window. Setup the WinAPRS program info. If you wish, use any icon in the list, but it will be replaced with a USA map icon when you close Program window.
- Start by double clicking on the map icon. Since there isn't any printing support in the current versions while under windows, you may want to PRINT the docs out using MS-DOS beforehand.
- You can now go back and DELETE the WIN32S directory that you created, you might want to keep the "OLE32S13.EXE" file around in case you need to re-do it someday, but the directory with all the expanded files is now just wasted disk space.
Beyond this description of what worked for me in Windows 3.1, I assume no reposibility for anything you do. May it be a useful tool if you get stuck.
Worked for me... not guarenteed, but should be a help. GOOD LUCK!
