About 10 years ago, Macross created a sensation among Japanese animation fans with its elaborate depiction of sophisticated machines and powerful actions. This new version still contains such factors, but it also features the friendship among two men and a woman, making it enjoyable to every one.

In 2040, Isamu and Guld are test pilots of different aircraft manufactures which have been competing hard to win a military contract for the next fighter. They used to be close friends, but now are emulating each other in the flights. One day, Myung, a friend of their childhood, comes to the town for a concert of Sharon Apple, a group of virtual singers. The three old friends meets again.

Executive director Shoji Kawamori is also in charge of mechanic designing. Character Designer Masuna Yuki has an original character, virtual singers.
