Registering your webpage with search engines.

You may have made the best webpage on the internet, with the most interesting content, and the best looking graphics the world has ever seen - but what good is that if no-one knows your website is there?

These days, you cannot simply put a website up on the internet and hope that people will find it - there are hundreds of millions of pages on the internet. How do you find the site you are looking for?

You use a Search Engine - these clever systems are designed to index millions of webpages, and return addresses according to search criteria - so that when you enter things like "Posh Scary Sporty Baby", you'll get a Spice Girls webpage - "Darth Vader Dark Side" will get you the Star Wars homepage, and if you enter "Kirk Spock Enterprise", you'll end up at the Star Trek homepage.Star Trek

However, you can use these search engines to help people find your page! There are many search engines on the internet that you can submit your site to, including AltaVista , Lycos , WebCrawler and many others!

If you would like to register with multiple search engines with the minimum of effort, Computer Experts offers a Registration service - we will register your InstantNet website with the top 10 search engines. That will increase the amount of people seeing your website tenfold!

Meta Tags

When you sumbit your page to a search engine, it indexes all of the text on your page - but it also searches something called the Meta Tags. Meta Tags describe your page - so that a page on Ferrari cars that doesn't specifically mention the word "racing" can be found when people search for "racing". Using Meta Tags correctly will help your page be found when people search for it!

You'll find Meta Tags under the Edit menu:
