Flow Control Additional Notes

As mentioned Hardware flow control is the preferred option. Software flow control is the older technology and as such is less reliable – it adds overheads to the PC’s main CPU (less of a problem with today’s fast PC’s). Software flow control can also cause data corruption.

To configure this information select START-SETTINGS-CONTROL-PANEL-MODEMS- then select the PROPERTIES button and then the CONNECTION tab and finally the ADVANCED button – you will see the following dialog box:-

Ensure the flow control tick box is set and that the hardware (RTS/CTS) radio button is selected.
