Newton ring

An optical phenomenon that occurs when a transparency copy is imported in the computer. Like the rainbow that occurs on the surface of a soap bubble, it is produced by the two surfaces of a very thin bubble of film, called the interference fringes. It can be prevented when the transparency copy is placed on the scanner's glass surface with the surface side of the transparency placed directly on top of the scanner's glass surface.
