Adaptation

Our receptivity to color is constantly changing.

Dark adaptation

When we move from a bright to a dark room, at first we find it difficult to see clearly until our eyes gradually adjust to the darkness. This phenomenon is called dark adaptation .

Light adaptation

This phenomenon is the opposite of dark adaptation, and occurs when we move from a dark to a well-lighted place.

Chromatic adaptation

When you put on a pair of sunglasses, at first everything seems tinted by the color of the lenses, but after a while you no longer notice the color. This is called chromatic adaptation.

Color constancy

Once the human eye has adapted to a color of a specific intensity, minor variations in the intensity will not change the perception of the brightness. This is called the constancy of color. Even if the illumination changes, the color will be perceived as being the same.
