Ghosts in back-lit photographs

Photo with a ghost image

When a powerful light source appears within an image, a ray of dots from the light source may appear. This effect may not be so bad depending on the camera, but in particularly glaring cases it can be readily removed simply by framing the shot so that the light source is excluded from the frame. Some cameras are prone to show vertical streaks of strong light called smears . This phenomenon is peculiar to the CCDs in digital cameras, and there is no easy way of eliminating them completely. The problem can be partly solved by avoiding situations where a bright point of light appears in the frame, without sacrificing the overall effect of brightness.
