There are various types of digital zoom cameras.

The type of zoom that expands a portion of the image read directly from the CCD will decrease the quality of the image. However, there is no quality deterioration from the kind of zoom that exports the image as a VGA.

The zooming function is very convenient for shooting distant subjects which cannot otherwise be approached.
