Photographing a subject through a window |
When shot through a window, unwanted shadows and light may appear in the photo |
Occasionally you will photograph scenery through a train window or from the observation deck of a skyscraper, or in other situations where you are looking through a window. It is always disappointing to find that the camera has focused on the window glass, leaving the scenery blurred and all the irrelevant details reflected in the glass in focus. This focusing problem can usually be solved by bringing the camera as close to the glass as possible. Reflections can be eliminated by shielding the camera with your hand, black paper, clothing, or whatever is at hand. Essentially, try to prevent the camera from photographing any reflections in the glass. |
Verify with the viewfinder that the glass is not being focused on before releasing the shutter |
