Scanning and enhancing poor quality photos

Image with low saturation

Image quality can be improved to some extent with image editing software, as follows.

First, scan the image at high dpi or on an enlarged scale (the dpi does not have to be virtual).

Next, use image editing software to reduce the size of the image data; this should improve the appearance of moiré and roughness of the image.

The saturation (color density and purity) of photos from magazines and leaflets is usually poor. The image quality can be enhanced by improving the saturation and slightly raising the contrast.
