Choosing between the film scanner or the flatbed scanner

Flatbed scanner and film scanner

Film scanners read light passed through the film, while flatbed scanners read light reflected off of an original image.

The color fidelity obtained from light passed through film is better than that from light reflected off of an original image. Hence, if you have a negative or a positive film, without any hesitation, use a film scanner; you will be able to import beautiful and sharp data. It is not affected by the shortcomings of the photo, which must be imported from the flatbed scanner whose image quality is adversely affected by the gradation of the printed photo.

When importing master image data from either the film scanner or the flatbed scanner, specify a high dpi and a large size. However, the upper limit should be set at the basic optical resolution of the scanner, or twice that. As a result, the file size will be large; however, you will avoid quality deterioration by having to shrink the image data or reduce the dpi to reproduce the original image.
