File format suitable for creating graphics

The number of colors and gradation required for graphics are less than that required for photo images. The GIF format is suited for graphics because its 256-color specification reduces the required file size.

GIF is a reversible compressed file of 256 colors, developed for telecommunication. It is suited for images and is used frequently for Web pages, which must be displayed on the screen quickly. GIF files of images with complex details tend to be larger than JPEG files. Nonetheless, little computer memory is required to process the date. This means that the displaying speed is fast.
