Understanding Scanners/Resolution and image sizeIndexHome

When an image from the Web was printed, the letters appeared squashed

The letters on a map scanned at 72 dpi are hardly readable

Web page images are viewed on the screen and should be imported at about 72 dpi to match screen resolution.

However, small letters on a map imported at 72 dpi may be difficult to read. Hence, a map to be printed must be imported at a somewhat higher resolution and its size must be reduced to the size required by the homepage user before being pasted.
