Understanding Scanners/Resolution and image size | Index | Home |
The scanned image is small and must be enlarged |
Small image at 72 dpi |
If you want to enlarge an image without losing resolution (for example, an image scanned at 72 dpi for use on a Web page) use the scale feature in the scanner driver. Then scan the image again. |
While the imported image remains at 72 dpi, its enlarged size can be varied as desired. |
Selecting 72 dpi in the printer driver |
Using the scaling function to enlarge the image 200% |
The same image as above, scanned after enlargement |
It is also possible to double the dpi of an image on the screen but the image will look different when printed out. Hence, to avoid confusion, it is preferable to fix the resolution and use the scale function to make the enlargement. |
