The dots on the printout of a scanned photo appear grainy

Rough dots on a printout

This happens if the resolution setting you make when scanning is too low in relation to the resolution setting you make when printing.

When using an ink jet printer or a laser printer, which shows color gradation through the arrangement of numerous dots, set the scanning resolution from one third to one half the resolution you will use when printing.

When you use a sublimation printer, which shows color gradation within each individual dot, use the same resolution setting during scanning and printing.

A good quality printout using high resolution scanning
