Understanding Scanners/Color imageIndexHome

The full-color scanned image is smeared and not faithfully reproduced

A high-resolution image displayed on a 256-color screen

When the color gradation of a 24-bit, full-color image is distorted, it may be that the number of colors the PC can process is not in the 24-bit full color range.

The full range of colors displayed by 24-bits is 16,700,000; the 32,000 colors displayed by 16 bits are acceptably pleasing.

The problem can be resolved by changing the screen color range to 16,700,000 or 32,000 colors, or changing the screen size to show the maximum number of colors. If the video board memory capacity is inadequate to make this possible, it must be increased. If this is not financially feasible, the full range of colors can usually be represented by changing the screen to 640 x 480 dots.
