Making the background image visible

When the photo was copied normally, the background disappeared.

When you use image editing software to superimpose one image on another, sometimes the top image obscures the background photograph.

There are two ways to make the background image visible:

  • Switch the order, so the superimposed image becomes the background.
  • Make the superimposed image transparent.

In Photoshop, for example, use the Layer feature. Before correcting the image, choose Show Layers from the Window menu. Select the photograph that is to be on top, then perform one of the following operations.

Choose Arrange from the Layer menu, and click "Bring to Front" to make that photograph the topmost layer. Or, click "Bring Forward" to move the layer one level up, if there are three layers or more. This will switch the order so that the superimposed image becomes the background.

Use your mouse to drag the white triangle in the Opacity slider of the layout window to the left to adjust the transparency of the photograph, until the bottom image gradually becomes visible. This will make the superimposed image transparent.
