The contrast is too high

High-contrast photo

In some photographs, certain colors of garments and lighting produce a glaring effect. In other words, a high contrast is created.

When high contrast prevails throughout the photograph, it can be adjusted using image editing software.

To correct the contrast with Photoshop, select Adjust from the Image menu and click "Brightness/Contrast." Make adjustments in this dialog box. Glare is caused by both high contrast and brightness, so you may want to adjust both Brightness and Contrast.

Photo after adjusting contrast

If you want a certain color to be less prominent, make adjustments in the Hue/Saturation dialog box. For details, see Section 5-3, "What can be done about foggy old photographs?"
