What can be done about foggy old photographs?

Faded photo

The colors of old photographs can become foggy or faded. This can be repaired by restoring their hue and saturation.

For example, with Photoshop you can restore the vividness of the colors in the Hue/Saturation dialog box. Select Adjust from the Image menu and click "Hue/Saturation." Select Master, and drag the triangle on the Saturation slider to the right. This will increase the overall vividness of the photograph. If the photograph is too yellow, select only Y, and move the slider to the left with your mouse. This will eliminate the yellow effect.
