Notes
Grey joined the Lafayette Flying Corps on 17 June 1917. After serving with Spa93, he transferred to the United States Air Service on 13 March 1918. On 1 August 1918, Grey was assigned to the 213th Pursuit Squadron as a flight commander. The only ace to serve in this squadron, he scored five confirmed victories while flying the SPAD S.XIII.

"For extraordinary heroism in action near Montmedy, France, 4 November 1918. While leading a patrol of three machines, Captain Grey observed a formation of our bombing planes hard-pressed by twelve of the enemy. He attacked the leading enemy machine without hesitation, thereby attracting the enemy's fire and allowing the bombing machines to escape undamaged." DSC citation
