| | Thomson transferred from the King's Own Scottish Borderers to the Royal Flying Corps in September 1916. During flight training, he was badly injured in a crash which left him with a permanently scarred face. Joining 46 Squadron in France during the summer of 1917, he flew the Sopwith Pup but didn't score any victories until the squadron received Sopwith Camels. During March 1918, he scored fifteen victories before returning to England. Two months later, Thomson was killed while taking off at Port Meadow. For no apparent reason, his aircraft burst into flames and crashed. |
