      SurfSaver
      Emailing and Backing Up Folders
    Emailing Folders
The information you collect in SurfSaver can easily be shared with other users. Your SurfSaver data is stored in the FILES subdirectory under the SurfSaver directory.

If you use the defaults when installing SurfSaver, your data will be in the directory:

      c:\program files\askSam\SurfSaver\files

If you organize your information in filing cabinets, each filing cabinet is a subdirectory under the FILES directory. The data is contained in .ASK files (for example ARCHIVE.ASK). Each ASK file represents a SurfSaver folder. You can send any of these .ASK files as an attachment to an email message.

Any other SurfSaver user could then copy the .ASK file into his/her SurfSaver FILES directory. The folder is then accessible to SurfSaver, and the user will have access to the information you sent.

This is a great way for a research assistant to gather on-line research and then pass the results on to other people.

With the SurfSaver Professional version, you can place your SurfSaver files on a Network drive and share them with other users.

NOTES: With the SurfSaver Professional version, you can place your SurfSaver files on a Network drive and share them with other users.

Previous versions of askSam (4.x and 3.x) will not open SurfSaver .ASK files. You will need the latest version of askSam 5 to open and search those files.

    Backing Up Your Data
The data you collect is valuable, and we recommend that you make regular backup copies of your folders. All your data is contained in the FILES subdirectory under the SurfSaver directory.

If you backup these files, you will be protected from hard disk crashes, computer failures, and other problems that can cause data loss.

If you create folders on other drives and directories, please remember to back these up as well as the files in the SurfSaver files directory. Please take the time to make regular back ups of all your important data (not just SurfSaver).
