Basic Web Design Module Two

Designing with XHTML (24 hrs)

Course Goals:
This course will teach you the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) concepts and skills required to create and modify effective WebPages and Websites. Students will learn the fundamentals of HTML documents including essential tags, and the appropriate use of frames, tables and forms. This course will also teach you MS FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver concepts and skills required to create and modify effective WebPages and Websites. Students will learn the application-specific and universal functions of this popular WYSIWYG (i.e., What You See Is What You Get) Web authoring tool. Course concepts and skills are learned through hands-on exercises/projects using MS FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Course concepts and skills are learned through hands-on exercises/projects.

Course Learning Objectives
1. Students will be able to create basic Webpages using HTML source code, and verify the results of their coding through various Web browsers.

2. Students will be able to add and format text, create hyperlinks, and add images and lists to HTML documents.

3. Students will be able to build a multiple-page Website, and include Web frames and tables as appropriate.

4. Students will be able to create basic Webpages using MS FrontPage or Dreamweaver, and verify the results of their coding through various Web browsers.

5. Students will be able to add and format text, create hyperlinks, and add images and lists to MS FrontPage or Dreamweaver authored HTML documents.

6. Using MS FrontPage or Dreamweaver, students will be able to build and publish a multiple-page Website, and include Web frames, tables, and interactive forms as appropriate.

Course Description:

This course will introduce you to Hyper Text Markup Language, the standard language used to create documents for the World Wide Web. Students learn the basic language nomenclature and codes to format text, tables and lists, create active Web links and include images in Web documents. Students create sample Web pages using a modern HTML editor and upload them to the Web. 

Advanced concepts include  forms, frames, and the Document Object Model. Two of the most popular graphical Web page editors, Microsoft Front Page and Macromedia Dream Weaver are also covered in depth.
