Studyabroad.com at the NAFSA Annual Conference
Mark Shay and Mark Landon of studyabroad.com will be in Phoenix from
Monday, June 3 through Saturday, June 8 for the NAFSA: Association of
International Educators 48th Annual Conference. We are anxiously looking
forward to meeting those of you who will be attending the conference.
Here is how to find us:
- On the Exhibit Floor
Stop by and see us at Booth #37 in the
Exhibit Hall, during exhibit hours (Tues., Wed., Thurs.: 9 - 5; Friday:
8:30 - 11:30). Our exhibit will feature "Beyond E-Mail," a look
at some of the newest technology available for the Internet. This
computer presentation shows off the world-wide web's "bells and
whistles;" interaction with databases, playing audio files, video
files, animation, and more; all demonstrated through a web browser. Mark
Landon will also be available to discuss developments in Internet usage
as it relates to International Education, and of course studyabroad.com
in particular. Free studyabroad.com mouse pads and promotional
materials will also be available.
- At the Hyatt Regency
Join us for some "Java" in the
"Cyber-Suite!" studyabroad.com will maintain a Suite at the
Hyatt Regency. We'll be checking in on Monday afternoon and
checking out Saturday Morning. We will maintain open hours at the Suite
from 7 am to 7 pm, Tuesday through Friday (other times by appointment).
Coffee and Pastries will be served each morning starting at 7. Stop by
and meet us! We will have two computers, hooked up to the Internet in
the Suite. Feel free to come in and "surf the web," do some
e-mailing, or discuss the "state-of-the-net." We will be more
than happy to give you an on-line tour of studyabroad.com, and answer
any questions you might have. Our Suite number will be posted at our
booth (or check with the Hotel Front Desk, we'll be registered under
the name "Landon").

POSTER CAMPAIGN GOES OVERSEAS
This summer we will experiment with placement of a limited number of
studyabroad.com posters on Austrian campuses. During the past 9 months,
we have distributed more than 10,000 studyabroad.com posters on campuses
throughout the United States. Our user survey (concluded in December)
told us that more than 40% of our traffic was generated as a result of
poster placement.
This trial will be our first direct attempt to market our service to
students outside of North America. In spite of this fact, 16% of the
85,000 page requests which received in April, came from Domains outside
of North America.
Here's a breakdown of studyabroad.com usage from the top 10
countries, outside the US, along with number of page requests (April
1996):
- Canada-1615
- United Kingdom-1258
- Australia-949
- Sweden-783
- Japan-540
- Norway-494
- Germany-487
- Singapore-457
- Netherlands-420
- Denmark-296
TOP 10 UNIVERSITIES LIST
Following are the top ten universities in terms of usage of our system
in the month of April. Shown is the number of pages requested from our
server by users from each domain. In the past few weeks we have
detected that things on campus are winding down as the spring semester
is ending. We have seen a steady increase in inquiries coming from
off-campus services. The assumption is that students are beginning to
browse from their homes and summer jobs.

"STATE OF THE NET" REPORT ON TAP
The business of the Internet has been growing at a phenomenal pace of
late. Telecommunications companies, software providers, broadcast and
print media firms are flooding the market with new offerings related to
the Internet. We at studyabroad.com are convinced that the Internet is
no longer an experiment, but rather a vibrant and productive means to
communicate with no end in sight for its development. Never has there
been a more explosive growth in a new technology. Millions of dollars
each day are being spent to develop related services.
We are in the final stages of drafting a "white paper"
addressing this growth and technological issues surrounding the
Internet. We will post this on our web site within a week or two and
have copies available at the NAFSA Conference.
