Inserting a Formula

For use in generated exams, the Formula fieldFields.tex provides a way to enter an expression and a Maple operation. What appears on the screen is the result of the operation.

$\blacktriangleright$    To insert a formula

  1. ClickitbpF21.75pt21.0625pt2ptformula.wmf, or from the Insert menu, choose Field and then choose Formula.

  2. In the Formula area, enter the expression.

  3. In the Operation area, enter the operation you want to perform on the expression.

    Click the arrow to the right for a list of available operations.

  4. Choose OK.

    Scientific Notebook displays the results of the operation on the screen.

For example, if you enter 4a + 7b - $\left(\vphantom{ 2a+b}\right.$2a + b$\left.\vphantom{ 2a+b}\right)$ in the Formula area and choose Simplify, on your screen you'll see 2a + 6b. The expression is not displayed on the screen.
