Direct Printing

The File Preview and File Print commands provide direct printing using the same output routines that are used to display documents on the main Scientific Notebook screen. (We plan to add this feature to the next release of Scientific Word and Scientific WorkPlace. Those products will have a separate Typeset menu for compiling, previewing, and printing documents with TeX.)

Although direct printingPrinting_documents.tex and previewingpreview.tex are generally much faster than their TeX equivalents, significant tradeoffs are involved. The direct print capabilities are simpler than those available with TeX. Direct printing does not offer hyphenation, kerning, ligatures, footnotes, margin notes, automatic table of contents or index generation. TeX's mathematical typesetting is superior.

The new File Page Setuppage_setup.tex dialog box provides settings for page marginsmargins.tex and for headers and footersheaders_footers.tex. Page numberspage_numbering.tex are the only automatically supplied objects available for headers and footers.
