Customize Scientific Notebook

You can customize Scientific Notebook to suit the way you work. By displaying, hiding, and moving toolbars, screen elements, and open documents and by changing the magnification used to display documents, you can make Scientific Notebook even more convenient to use.

$\blacktriangleright$ To display or hide toolbars

From the View menu, choose Toolbars.
Check the toolbars you want to display and uncheck the toolbars you want to hide.
Choose OK.

$\blacktriangleright$ To move a toolbar to a new location

Display the toolbar.
Place the mouse pointer anywhere in the gray area surrounding the buttons.
Drag the toolbar to a new location. You can dock the toolbar on the top, bottom, or sides of the program window, or you can float it in the entry area or on your desktop.

$\blacktriangleright$ To display or hide a symbol panel

Click the Symbol toolbar button for the panel you want to display.
Place the mouse pointer anywhere in the gray area surrounding the buttons.
Drag the panel to a new location.
When you're ready to hide the panel, clickitbpF16.6875pt14.5pt2ptclose.wmfon the panel or click the corresponding Symbol toolbar button.

$\blacktriangleright$ To display or hide screen elements

On the View menu, check the elements you want to display and uncheck the elements you want to hide.

$\blacktriangleright$ To arrange the open document windows

From the Window menu, choose Cascade, Tile Horizontally, or Tile Vertically.

Drag the title bar of an open window to position it conveniently.

$\blacktriangleright$ To change the magnification on the screen

From the View menu, choose Custom.
Set the magnification to a value between 50 and 400 percent of the working view.

Click the Zoom Factor box itbpF66.75pt29.75pt4ptzoom.wmf, and then:
- Enter the magnification you want and press Enter.

  Click the arrow to the right to display a list of values, and then click the one you want.

Working in Scientific Notebook is fast, but you can make it even faster if you use the function keys to apply the tags you use most often. You can set global function key assignments, or you can override the global settings with different function key assignments for each style.

$\blacktriangleright$ To set function key assignments

From the Tag menu, choose Function Keys.
Select the tag whose function key assignment you want to change.
In the Save With box
- Check Global Information to save the assignments for use at all times, unless a different assignment for this tag is associated with the current style.

  Check Style Information to save the assignments for use with any document created with the current style.
The Current Assignment box shows any function keys assigned to the tag. You can cancel the current assignments or add to them.
- To cancel assignments, select one or more key names in the Current Assignment box and choose Remove or Remove All.
- To add an assignment, place the insertion point in the Press New Keys area, press the function key you want to assign to the selected tag, and then choose Assign.
Place the insertion point in the Press New Keys area and press the function key you want to assign to the selected tag.
Choose Assign.
Repeat steps 2–6 for all tags to which you want to assign a function key.
Choose Close.

By changing the User Setup defaults, you can customize the way Scientific Notebook works. You can set these defaults:

From the Tool menu, choose User Setup.
Choose the tab you want
Set the defaults as you want them.
Choose OK.
