Did You Know...

Probe can measure the performance of local and networked drives. This measure is used when estimating time consumtion for large, time consuming file operations. To measure the performance for a drive:

1 - Point a Folder Browser so that it shows a folder within the drive to be tested.

2 - In the Disk pulldown menu (Storage Specific menu), there's an item Disk Settings. Invoke it.

3 - In the dialog with settings that is shown, there's a button Analyze Performance! When this button is pressed, the performance test is started. The test will read and write files to measure the performance, and usually takes around 10 secodns per disk.

From the main window Settings pulldown menu, item Performance, button Do Disk Performance Analysis Now, one can select the drives to analyze from a list box, and do disk performance analysis all of them.

NOTE: The result obtained by Probe is application level performance for the disk drive. This figure can sometimes vary significantly if the analysis is repeated.
