The Status Bar

The status bar provides various bits of information on the state of Probe.

The fields of the status-bar are described left to right below:

 

The Selection Field

This field says how many objects are selected in the active Folder Browser and the sum of their sizes. Only files/folder selected in the current folder are included, subfolder contents is not counted.

The Free Storage Field

This field says how much free space is available on the drive of the active Folder Browser.

The Current Path Field

This field displays the path of the active Folder Browser. If the Probe main window is resized, this field will be widened or narrowed.

The File Transfer Field

This field displays a progress bar for the file operation that was last started. This enables keeping track of a lengthy file operations without having the progress dialogs visible.

The Folder Browser Sort Field

This field displays how the files of the active Folder Browser are sorted. Available sorting methods are:

When sorting is based on type, and a secondary criterion, only 'Type' is displayed in the status-bar.

This field can be clicked with the right mouse-button and modified, or double-clicked.

The Subfolder Handling Field

This field displays the current setting for Subfolder Handling. The available alternatives are:

This field can be modified by clicking the right mouse button on it, or by double-clicking.

The Watch Active Field

A folder watch is a process which detects changes within the current folder caused by programs other than Probe. If a folder don't have such a watch, changes are not detected automatically.

To have a correct listing of the contents after external modifications, when no watch is active, an explicit refresh can be made through Ctrl-R or by selecting this alternative in the white area popup menu.

The Date Method Field

Probe supports the three different file dates available with FAT and NTFS file systems. The date displayed in Folder Browsers is one of:

This field can be modified with the right mouse button, or by double-clicking it.
