Tarantula is a fully WYSIWYG web authoring tool. It does not require any prior knowledge of HTML to generate good-looking and highly functional web pages. In order to make the task of designing web pages simple, the formatting of text is handled by the integrated text editor. This editor is a fully functional word processor, with basic functions like text formatting, alignment etc., going upto advanced features such as spell-check and importing of external text documents. Tarantula has a built in 100,000 word American English dictionary. Also, Tarantula can directly import .txt, .rtf and .doc files. Plain text files can have filters applied to them, which will make the simplest looking text appear as professionally laid out. MS-Word .DOC files can also be imported, if it is installed on your system. |

Importing a file in Tarantula is a very simple task. One can either create a 'text area', and then invoke the text editor. From there, the file can be imported. Or, even more simply, any importable file can just be drag-dropped from the Explorer or Desktop etc. An image area will automatically be created for you, and the file imported in it. In fact, the area will also be resized as need, so that all the text is visible. |

Basic functionality added to Tarantula ensure a lot of small features which add up to increase productivity. For example, all commonly used fonts automatically get added to a simple font drop-down menu. The text editor itself takes it's color from the color of the page being edited, to offer to a better understanding of how the page will really look like. |
Tarantula 1.91 also adds a productivity enhancing tool : Custom Styles. This is a concept which, though entirely different from StyleSheets (CSS), offers you a very convenient way to reduce the time taken to do a particular formatting task. Using this, you can create custom styles, which may be any combination of attributes such as color, font, size, bold etc., and assign it a name. For example, a news publication will be able to define a 'headline' style, and then this style can be applied at a later point to any text. Tarantula will automatically apply all the attributes to the text. In order to make the task of managing these styles even easier, Tarantula creates libraries, which are a collection of related styles. Any library can be selected at any time from within Tarantula. Of course, there is no limit to the number of libraries one can have. |

Unlike some other editors, the integration of text and graphics is so strong in Tarantula, that one can convert text into graphics with a mouse click. It is also possible to add filters and special effects to the text-image, without ever resorting to any third-party tool. For details, see the section on web-graphics. |
